Chief Justice Richard Wagner speaks at Europe Day

On May 9, Chief Justice Richard Wagner was honoured to be the guest speaker for Europe Day.

Addressing the audience, the Chief Justice said “What brings us together are our shared ideals: democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Indeed, the European Union embodies one of the greatest democratic achievements of our time. It is more than just an alliance of states; it is a community rooted in the rule of law, driven by respect for human rights and guided by the pursuit of peace.” He continued, “Canada, too, is a force for democracy and the rule of law, both at home and abroad. It may not be a military superpower, but it is certainly a democratic superpower.”

Chief Justice Wagner highlighted that Europe Day is a powerful reminder that collaboration is how democracies endure. By standing together, we remain strongholds of justice, freedom and dignity.
