Mr. Edwards was charged with conspiring to traffic in cocaine. Trial was scheduled to be complete in 33.5 months, above the presumptive ceiling set out in R. v. Jordan, 2016 SCC 27. Mr. Edwards applied to stay proceedings for breach of s. 11(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The trial judge dismissed the motion and convicted Mr. Edwards. The Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal.
